Help Your Child Access Up to $1,000 in Dental Care Through Medicare
To support families and promote better oral health, eligible children can receive up to $1,000 in dental care over two years through Medicare’s Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS). If your child qualifies, you may have already received information about this government initiative via mail or email.
Is Your Child Eligible for the CDBS?
To qualify, your child must:
- Be aged between 2 and 17 years
- Be eligible for Medicare
- Receive, or be part of a family receiving, Family Tax Benefit Part A, Parenting Payment, or Double Orphan Pension Payments
Not sure if your child qualifies? Simply call Medicare, and they’ll confirm your child’s eligibility. You can also check online through your MyGov account linked to Medicare.
How to Use the Child Dental Benefits Schedule
Once eligibility is confirmed, you can book an appointment with your local dental clinic. It’s important to check whether the clinic participates in the CDBS and offers bulk billing. This allows you to avoid out-of-pocket expenses and the hassle of lodging claims with Medicare.
At Bright Dental Smile, we proudly offer bulk billing for eligible treatments under the CDBS—making your visit easier and more affordable.
What Services Are Covered Under the $1,000 Limit?
The CDBS covers essential dental services up to $1,000 over a two-year period, including:
- Routine check-ups
- Professional cleaning
- X-rays (if needed)
- Fillings
- Fissure sealants
- Root canal treatment
It does not cover orthodontic (teeth straightening), cosmetic procedures, or treatments requiring hospital admission. Your dentist will advise you on what’s included and provide a tailored treatment plan.
If your child requires minimal dental work, the $1,000 benefit can easily cover regular six-monthly check-ups and cleans over the two-year period.
Start Early for Lifelong Dental Health
Research shows that children who begin regular dental visits at a young age enjoy better oral health throughout life.
Routine check-ups help catch and treat problems early—avoiding more invasive and costly treatments later. Even baby teeth play an essential role in your child’s overall health. Decay can happen at any age and often leads to other complications if left untreated.
A strong prevention plan, starting with professional guidance, can set your child up for lifelong dental health.
